“I love the romance in Celestina’s work. It’s got an almost ethereal quality to it,
where it seems mythic and storybook-like…authentically so.
It’s breathable and magical!” -Sara
Sara and Charlie are the most delightful pair! They said the values they hold most closely would be, “loyalty, love…and laughter!” They brought lots of laughter to their session with me, and it made the time just fly by! These two have been together for just over three years, and they met online. “Charlie is British, but in 2014 had just moved to LA after completing six months of his Master’s Degree in NYC”, explain Sara, “I had moved out there to work in the film industry. We met for a two-hour coffee date and were laughing/talking so much that not only did we stay longer than two hours…we shut down Starbucks! We ended up walking all over town. We kept saying, I feel like we’ve been best friends for years, and I’ve just been waiting for you to be with me. We were best friends within two hours, and in love by the end of the night.” So romantic! Obviously, that first impression went amazingly and today, they enjoy things like dining out together, being with family, going to the lake, and anything related to history.
The two wanted a casual, outdoor session because their wedding will be all glam! They will be getting married at the Grand Rapids Amway Grand Plaza, which is absolutely stunning, and fits Sara’s aesthetic perfectly. “I keep describing my wedding as Gilded Age Mythic Romance. My inspiration is like mythic/romantic with a twist of vintage. Charlie and I both love the 1920s Art Deco aesthetic, so I wanted to infuse luxurious Art Deco/Gilded Age details with storybook touches like candelabras and lanterns”, explains Sara, “Luckily, Celestina has a marvelous touch of magic in her photos so…I knew she’d be along for the ride. This lady has serious talent, and her sense of style matched everything I had in mind.” These two are very special, and their love story is one I’ve sure loved being part of, in my small way. I loved when they shared this beautiful memory: “One memory that stands out in our relationship was when we were moving back to Michigan from LA, and we were both very anxious. We were giving up “the Hollywood dream” because neither of us felt fulfilled by the entertainment industry, and because we wanted to start a family. But we were nervous. Charlie had only ever lived in LA or NYC while in America, and now…he was going to the Midwest. The uncertainty of this next chapter was (of course) on our minds as we drove. Just as we hit Oklahoma City, the most beautiful sunset we ever saw flared across the sky– and on the radio at the exact moment, Jason Aldean’s “Fly Over States” came on: “on the plains of Oklahoma…like a watercolored painted sky…you’ll think Heaven’s doors have opened, you’ll understand why God made those fly over states.” Perhaps it was just the emotion/stress of moving, but that timing of that moment had both of us stunned. We were both teary-eyed and knew going home to our fly over state was the right path for us. And we’ve never regretted it since!”
